Q: 90 mazda miata, is there a special tool to take the front rotors off on this car?
yes or no i know on some foreign cars they got a special tool for it does this one?

A: Not unless you think a 12 mm and a 14 mm combination wrench is special.

Q: If you had the choice beetween a Mazda Miata or a Honda Civic, which would you choose and why?
The Honda civic would also be 5 speed manual transmission.

A: Of course as everyone has mentioned...it depends on your need. If you ever want to have more than two people in the car, go with the civic. If you want a true pure sports car, go with the Miata. They are polar opposites. Civic-front wheel drive, Miata rear wheel drive, civic has a solid roof, Miata is a convertible, Civic is a low horsepower to weight ratio compared to the miata, but that is stock. The civic can be upgraded to incredible amounts of HP, but that doesn't change the way it handles. The Miata can be upgraded with gobs of HP as well, but the handling char. will be much better. What do you want to do? Get some groceries? Or get a tan? Besides...they don't call them a sissy car after you put 3 seconds on them in an autocross. They just drive away..with their windows up...as you pull out top down.

Q: What kind of headlights fit a 2003 Mazda Miata?
Looking for an upgrade to HID lights.

A: I'm not sure, but if you go to any auto parts store, they should be able to look it up for you.

Q: 91 mazda miata I am installing a new head gasket but I need help in tighting the head bolts what do they mean?
by sequence and how many torque should I apply when tighting them?

A: Get a Haynes repair manual for it. It gives you torque's and detailed step by step instructions with pics. Much more helpful than a Chilton manual in my opinion. Sequence should not matter. You do not want to over tighten them. Breaking a bolt off in the engine is no fun to remove. Also, if all the bolts to not have the same ft/lbs of torque the gasket could leak. You are probably safe with 45-60 ft/lbs of torque though. Good Luck!

Q: I installed a intake air filter on my Mazda Miata 1991 won't start?
I try to staryt my car and it seems to bog out it starts but dies out

A: make sure you have plug back the maf sensor and a dust sensor those 2 things are the only things related to intake instalation

Q: I need a good Vynal conditioner for my Mazda Miata Convertable top?
The manufacturer says if should be a non oil based product. Any suggestions? Thats Vinyl.....oops!

A: Armour All.

Q: Mazda Miata transmission problems?
I have a 1994 Miata with 135K kms on the clock. Recently the transmission will only shift into gear when the engine is off, it will not move out of neutral when the engine is running. In other words I cannot drive the car. \Also the if \i put the car into 1st or reverse gears then start it up it will it will go forward or backwards depending on what I have selected even with the clutch pushed in. Since it is a manual I have not yet checked the transmission fluid as this requires jacking up the car etc etc. Any suggestions?

A: It's probably the master or slave cylinder for the clutch. Does the pedal feel kind of limp? Does it eventually go into gear if you pump the clutch? (or did it when the problem first started?) The fluid doesn't have to be low for the hydraulics to be the problem...if the seals on the master or slave cylinder are bad, fluid is flowing past them and they aren't pumping effectively. Miata.net has good instructions on how to replace the slave cylinder. The master cylinder is self-explanatory. Oh, and don't get a rebuild kit. Chances are you'll get something that is right according to the auto parts place's database, but isn't exactly right. Just get a new or rebuilt master cylinder. You should also not buy the master cylinder online. I got the wrong one from Partsamerica. Oh, it would have worked if I could have mounted it, but the bolt holes were the wrong size. It was otherwise identical...would have been fine if I had a drill press. Take your old one off, take it to the parts store, and match the bolt holes before you take it home. Or measure the bolts and make sure they will fit through the holes.

Q: How do I turn off the check engine light of a 2000 Mazda Miata?

A: Unless you figure out a way to disable the light, the only way to get it to go away is to have the car hooked up to what is called an OBD II. All mechanics shops have them. It's a handheld device that reads the computer codes that caused the light to go on in the first place. There are numerous sensors attached to the engine, and if any one of them gives readings that are outside the suggested parameters, the light will come on. If it goes off, then the computer is no longer receiving a bad signal. You most likely will have to have a sensor replaced before it will go away.

Q: what year does mazda make miata more safer?
At what year do they start reinforcing everything to make it more safer. Not saying it was very safe just improving the safe factor? I want to buy this car for my daughter, which one would be best 2000 and up? 99+? 03+? Thank you

A: In general it will be "safer" (how the standards define it) the newer it is due to increasingly strict standards the manufacturers are forced to meet. That said, you can probably group Miatas by their generations and buy within them (90-97; 99-2005; 2006+) based on how much the perceived safety is worth to you. [Note: in 1994 they updated to meet 1997 standards so you could group it into 90-93/94-97 instead] Additionally there are new standards taking effect in 2010 I believe that will make the 2011 Miatas safer still.

Q: Mazda Miata compressor same with 323 famila?
my compressor is stuck, it wont turn, you can't even turn it manually, is there a way to repair it or whatsoever? i rili need your advice asap! and also, is it the same with the mazda 323 familia.. my miata is a 92, is it the same with any 323? i've heard that they have the same engine..

A: They are not interchangeable (according to Parts America and car-part.com) If you were close I would sell you mine, but that would be unethical. Maybe there is one at car-part.com close to you that is used.

Q: where can i get my mazda miata reupholstered in NJ , no seat covers prefer leather?

Q: Mazda Miata 99: Is it worth buying?
I want to buy a used car which gives good gas mileage and looks good in the range of $4500-$5500. I found a mazda miata 99 having 81k miles and have minor cosmetic damage. Carfax looks clean. Seller is asking 5300. I want to get it checked by a mechanic before I buy though.Would that be worth the investment. It does come with a soft top only. So I might have to get some minor things fixed after I buy. Any suggestions. Thanks.

A: Price is totally dependent on condition and maintenance but the Miata is a rock-solid vehicle and good for 200,000+ miles if cared for. There are thousands of aftermarket parts and goodies for the car available, (even a lift-off hardtop), replacement parts are fairly cheap and it is easy to repair. The best part about owning a Miata ( both my sister and son drive one), are the local Miata clubs. These poeple are nuts about Miatas and are a great source of information about repairs, parts and upkeep you won't find anywhere else -- plus you get to go to club meetings and weekend 'runs' with two dozen other Miatas (sounds cheezy but it really is a blast).

Q: Where can I locate the COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR on a 91 Mazda Miata?

A: It's right under the air duct going to the throttle body, between the radiator and the engine block. It's on the thermostat housing which is on the hose going from the radiator to the engine. The coolant temp sensor doesn't do alot of good of telling you if the car is overheating or not. I recommend a oil temperature sensor. You can get a special attachment that you would place on your oil filter for about $50. It's saved my miata before.

Q: My Turn signals and hazards only work some of the time I have a Mazda miata 99 and the fuses are all good ?
What else could be causing this

A: It sounds as if either your relays or the larger fuses under the hood with the relays are not gone but heading in that direction. The problem with these is while they are working they are hard to pin point, as you have to catch them in a down phase. My advise would be check the larger fuses under the hood if none seem to be cracked then I to go to autozone and have them get you a relay for controling your signals and hazards and replace it. They are not terribly expensive and that should take care of it.
