Q: Is a 1999 Mazda Miata MX-5 with 68000 miles worth $7000?
I mainly wanna know if it's gonna last me another 5 years. It has 68k and some change, is it still a good option for a young guy on a budget?
A: No. The person who owns it is trying to get a big bump for the low miles. And it's not worth it. The car is 10 years old. Many things can go wrong at that age. From expensive mechanical things to irritating stuff like trim falling off on the interior, door handles breaking, etc.
Sure its very low miles for a 10 year old car. But overall, it is a 10 year old car!
I'd book a car like that at $4000 and put it on our lot for $5998. I'd take any offer between $5200 and $5500.
Q: Mazda Miata Alarm/lock?
I have a 1999 Mazda Miata. The alarm/lock system hasn't been working lately. When hitting the button for it to lock after leaving the car, it does not. However, if anyone should open the door, the alarm will go off.
Should I go to Mazda or the alarm company for it to be fixed?
A: Change the battery in the remote.
Q: Which would have the cheaper insurance premium - Mustang or Miata?
Autos in question are a 1998 Mustang hard-top with the small V6 or a 1999 Mazda Miata MX5 convertible with the small 1.8L 4 cyl.
A: There are tons of places where you can get a free insurance quote. http://www.simpleautoquotes.com/Auto-Insurance.html It only takes a few minutes to do.
Q: Will a 1.6l mazda miata flywheel work on a 1.6l mazda protege?
1999 mazda protege dx 1.6l manual tranny
A: no dont think so
Q: How long will it take to install a turbo kit?
I drive a 1999 mazda miata and im looking to install a complete turbo kit. Im purchasing a series 4 BEGi turbo kit (http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages/products_miataturbosystems.html#Series_4)
Along with the turbo, i would also like to install a new performance clutch aswell. Just wondering how many hours the turbo kit and the clutch would take to install roughly?
A: The clutch will be a time consuming job as you will need to pull the tranny or the motor. I did my clutch in my 92 in about 4hours total. I pulled the PPF and removed the tranny.
As far as the turbo, I'd guess I would tack on another 5 hours. removing and replacing the exhaust manifold shouldn't be too bad, but aligning everything (IC and piping) can be a pain in the butt. Corky's kits are well thought out.
Q: Junk Miata for Sale?
Does anybody have a really cheap junk 1992-1999 Mazda Miata? I only need a few parts (left quarter panel, and two new seats, and a few small parts) or anywhere you can buy salvage parts?
A: go to yellowbook.com and type in your locationa and auto junk in the search. It will give you a list of car junk dealers. That would be much cheaper than buying anything online. Believe me, I am looking into rebuilding my 88 suburban. Any part I find is cheaper at the junk dealer than online, its even cheaper than ebay!!
Q: check engine light on the day i bought the car?
so, i bought this 1999 Mazda Miata.
the check engine light came on the day i bought the car. the dealer promised that the car would (apparently it did when he smogged it. he might have false passed it) pass the smog. however, i ran a code check and it says the cat is below threshold. and either i need a O2 sensor or a new cat. can i return the car since it doesn't pass smog like he said it would?
A: If you got a good deal on the car I would keep it because the both the O2 sensors and the catalytic converter are easy to replace. You can pick up a new O2 sensor for about $50 and you can reach in from either underneath, or in the driver's side wheel well.
If it is the catalytic converter, it's an easier replacement. Because miatas are all direct-fit, you don't need to worry about welding and they just bolt right on. Official Mazda catalytic converters are about $400, but you can get higher quality aftermarket converters for less than $100. When I replace catalytic converters on miatas it takes me less than 30 minutes.
Either way, it's not a big deal but I would definitely replace the O2 sensor before the catalytic converter first. I recommend doing your own work on this one because of the ease of work. Good luck and hope this helps.
Q: Can I get a car in my parents name and be a secondary driver on their insurance? We could save up to $1000?
The car is a 1999 Mazda Miata. I would give my parents cash for the car payment and insurance. I would REALLY be the only one driving it. Also, could this work when I go off to college(in state but I would be living separately )?
My parents already have three other cars under their name not including the miata
A: Since your parents each have their own vehicle, you would still be primairy driver of the Miata, the advantage to putting the vehicle in your parents name would be that you would receive a multi-vehicle and potentially multi-policy discounts if they also have their home with the same company, Some companies will allow you to receive these discounts on your own policy, so that is another option, your best bet is to check with your company, I don't know if it would save you $1000, but it could save you as much as 30%.
Q: I know this isn't a local site, but...Auto wrecker junkies might point me in the right direction for a Mazda M
Mazda Miata MX5 1999 convertible> I'm in Sac, CA and heading to U-pull it and Pick-n-pull tomorrow for my roomies broken tail-lamps lenses(both sides). I went to one in Rocklin, and nothing and a guy said he hadn't seen one there in a while. So, I'm guessing they're kinda slim pickens. Any suggestions? I know...just fgo check it out, but I'm a busy guy during a Saturday and it's alot of gas, and besides I've been getting spoiled using all this technology.:)
A: Mazda Auto Recycling, Inc. Sacramento 888-926-5900 or
Mazda Dismantling, Sacramento 888-699-2664
They will tell you on the phone if they have the part, and will ship it to you, or you can go pick it up.
Q: catalytic converter need it or not?
I have a 1999 Mazda Miata, the check engine light came on, Mazda dealer said EGR valve was bad, had it replaced, light comes back on several days later now it's the "catalytic converter." Question is how could this effect my car, it's just a pollution issue, and in Florida we have no vehicle inspection, I have tape over the light for now. Do i really need to replace the converter?
A: The girl who just answered that question not only got severely ripped off but she is probably lying. I don't think you should replace it but if you do it shouldn't be more than 300 dollars installed.
